Practice overview

Jonathan  successfully completed a Family Law pupillage with KBG Chambers, becoming a tenant in October 2026. He continues to take instructions in all areas of Family Law, including care proceedings, private law proceedings, matrimonial finance and SEND Tribunals.

Before joining chambers, Jonathan previously undertook a PhD in molecular biology at the University of Plymouth Peninsular Medical and Dental School and held a research position at the University of Exeter exploring how gene regulation in the developing human brain may contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders. This previous career has provided Jonathan with an analytical and logical approach to contested proceedings and a greater appreciation for neurodiversity and mental health disorders within the family courts.

Jonathan is currently the Chambers Representative on the Plymouth Junior Lawyers Division Committee, ensuring there is support for pupils and junior tenants entering the legal industry in Plymouth.

 

Expertise

Public Law

Jonathan is frequently instructed by Local Authorities, parents and Guardians at all stages of care proceedings. Jonathan is praised for his client handling, whether this is with professional clients or parents within proceedings.  Jonathan has been in proceedings involving non-accidental injury, deprivation of liberty, care and placement orders, and adoption.

Private Law

Jonathan has represented parents and 16.4 Guardians in private law proceedings, covering complex cases that have included allegations of domestic abuse, child abduction and parental alienation. Clients have reported that Jonathan makes them feel less anxious while listening attentively to their concerns. Jonathan has appeared in all stages of proceedings, including first appointments, dispute resolution appointments, multi-day fact-finding hearings and final hearings.

Matrimonial Finance

Jonathan is instructed at all stages of finance proceedings. He is effective during FDRs, assisting parties to reach settlement by consent orders, and has been successful in seeking costs for misconduct.
