Jeremy Rawlings is formally appointed as the Deputy Chancellor of Salisbury Cathedral

On Thursday 26th September 2024 Jeremy Rawlings was formally appointed as the Deputy Chancellor of Salisbury Cathedral and was sworn in at a private ceremony by the Bishop of Salisbury, the Rt Rev’d Stephen Lake attended by the Chancellor and Diocesan Registry.  Jeremy will deputise for the Chancellor, Ruth Arlow, as necessary.

Each diocese has an ecclesiastical court - the Consistory Court - and this is presided over by the Chancellor. Much of the Chancellor’s work deals with national faculty legislation, controlling works to and around consecrated churches and churchyards. The Chancellor also sets the parameters for Churchyard Regulations, which are specific to each diocese. This work is administered by and through the Diocesan Registry. The Chancellor sometimes hears disputed matters in open court.
