KBG Chambers hosted Sarah Lowe of Parent Assess who delivered virtual training to guardians and lawyers

KBG Chambers hosted Sarah Lowe of Parent Assess who delivered virtual training to guardians and lawyers on last night - the session was well attended

Sarah Lowe, an independent social worker is the author of the framework developed in 2016 to assess parents who have learning disabilities and other additional needs, prior to and within public law proceedings

It is based on the well established DOH ASSESSMENT OF CHILDREN IN NEED AND THEIR FAMILIES 2000, but uses a modern range of tools and tables to help parents engage and understand the process

The framework for assessment identifies strengths and concerns, and is able to assess the emotional and practical needs of parenting

It is able to assess parenting abilities using up to date technologies and is more flexible than other models

The assessment model is also suitable for those with autism. Parent Assess is referenced in the Good Practice Guidance 2021 and is Re: D compliant and has been endorsed by many Courts in England and Wales

The traffic light system means the assessment outcomes are measurable and parents understand these better.

Thanks to Julie Buckley, Family Barrister at KBG, for arranging the talk.
